Coms Direct started working with Sherringtons in 2007. "I was looking for someone to look after communications for my new office and Coms Direct offered a complete managed service including a swap out service for the equipment," explained Paul. "I liked their ideas about Voice over IP and based on the growth plans I had, it was a very cost effective solution."
Coms Direct provided both Internet access and VoIP, and when Sherringtons was looking to move into its new offices, Coms Direct became heavily involved in managing the migration. The key focus was to avoid any impact on the ongoing business during the move.
The office was brand new, and it turned out, BT had potentially run out of connectivity in the business park. Instead of the typical five-day lead time for telephone and broadband connectivity, it started to look like weeks, and at one point there was even a question about being able to provide connectivity at all. With contracts signed and still no confirmed installation dates, Coms Direct installed its ProActive Office service.
"Timing was becoming a real problem, we had two offices we were paying for and no confirmed date about when we could move, then Coms Direct told me about their ProActive Office and we were on the move," said Paul.
ProActive Office is an on demand 3G-based VoIP and data solution. It is designed to provide an emergency service for disaster recovery or installation problems. Originally focused on providing data connectivity for email, Internet and VPN connectivity, extensive testing by Coms Direct proved the service was capable for both VoIP and data. The ProActive Office service is fully managed and uses a business class 3G service, with fixed IP address, no filtering and a dedicated business portal between the 3G network and the broadband network – guaranteeing the business class service. The service is provided on a weekly basis, although some customers are using it for permanent connectivity.
Installed and tested prior to the office move, Coms Direct provided connectivity for four PCs and VoIP handsets. The solution provided a seamless service for two weeks whilst the dedicated telephone and broadband connections were put in place.
"It was great, one less thing to worry about when we were moving office, and no-one was any the wiser that we were running the business over 3G," said Paul.
